Haven Lock with Alex Bertelli

Army Veteran Alex Bertelli invented the Haven Lock following his experience in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He got the idea from how Iraqi insurgents would barricade their doors against US forces.

Alex Bertelli – From Flyer to Entrepreneur

Alex’s military career began after receiving his certificate for the ROTC program of University of Dayton in 2005.  He got accepted in the aviation branch of the army. From there, he traveled to Fort Rucker, Alabama where he learned how to become a helicopter pilot.

He was passionate about flying and enlisted in the 160th during his first week in flight school. The rest, simply put, is history.

Down his career path he came to a crossroads where had to choose to move away to Fort Campbell. His family came up with a suggestion of moving on from the military career.

Alex made the decision to transition into civilian life with a job and while pursuing an MBA.

The Entrepreneurial Story

Alex has always wanted to start his own business, not wanting to rely on wages from working for another company for the rest of his life.

“I always thought that the key to success was developing an idea around a team that could take something to market and be successful.” – Alex Bertelli

When a business idea occurred to him, he built a team around it and took it to Kickstarter. With the platform and a lot of hard work and confidence in his idea, he was able to successfully launch his smart lock business.

Haven Lock’s Success

By investing in his idea, the prize he and his team got off their toiling was incredible. They landed on news websites and got published, reaching as far as Japan.

His business continues to grow and is now on its way to mass production of one of the world’s strongest smart locks.
