Lyndsey Antanitis Veteran on the Movfe

Lyndsey Antanitis oversees the Organic Farming Certificate Program and the Veteran Farmer Training Program, at Rodale Institute in Kutztown PA. As a graduate from both, she is able to channel her knowledge into her passion, which is educating and providing opportunities for other veterans within organic agriculture. Previously, she served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force where she worked as a 4H (Cardiopulmonary Laboratory Technician) at Eglin AFB, for five years. Through three deployments, being selected for a Critical Care Air Transport Team, and acquiring a B.S. in Health Sciences, her desire to help others and the environment only grew. This helped propel her career transition into organic agriculture.

Lyndsey Antanitis- Finding A Passion

Lyndsey was in a very specific career field in the Air Force.  Her deployable job doing respiratory therapy therefore she worked with ICU and trauma patients.  After serving, Lyndsey thought her transition went very smoothly. She had earned her national certification in respiratory therapy while she was in the Air Force and thought she would ultimately work in a hospital.  Once Lyndsey got out, she took some time off and realized that she did not want to go back and work in the hospital. She wanted to be outdoors and working with her hands.

“I really enjoyed helping people and having a direct impact on their lives in a very meaningful manner.” – Lyndsey Antanitis

Caring for the Environment

Lyndsey discovered the Rodale Institute and enrolled in their Organic Agriculture program.  She was offered to stay on and run the Veteran Farmer Training Program. This allowed her to find out if this was really something she wanted to do.  It was hands on and working in a community where everyone cared about the environment. The farm became very therapeutic for Lyndsey and became a place she wanted to be.

“Even if you don’t want to be an organic farmer, it was for me a great way to decompress.” – Lyndsey Antanitis

Veterans Farming Program

Lyndsey helps veterans who come to the training program by directing them to the correct path for where they are in their farming aspirations.  She can assist them in acquiring land and getting them involved with a community so they can network. Additionally Lyndsey finds the right path for each veteran who wants to farm.

“We understand that life happens and not everybody can commit to coming to the farm to work five days a week; we are very flexible.” – Lyndsey Antanitis
