“It provides one-on-one employment transition services to veterans leaving the military for civilian work.” – Miranda Hope on the Easter Seals Bob Hope Veterans Support Program

Miranda Hope – A Hands-on Team

Miranda shares that the service’s being one-on-one is so critical to the organization’s mission and success. They don’t cut corners and generalize veterans when coming up with the best employment plan for them. The team, spearheaded by John Funk, listen closely and work in order to figure out what is meaningful for each one of their clients.

John Funk – A Military Story

Director of operations John Funk relays twenty-eight years’ worth of narrative as part of the Navy. Graduating from the Naval Academy in 1984, he went off to flight school to become a helicopter pilot. He commanded the Sea Hawk to fend off Soviet submarines during the Cold War and the HSL-44 Swamp Fox Squadron in Florida.

He was able to work with thousands of folks in serving the country, then moved on to take government positions typically chosen by senior marine officers.

“While it was a really great opportunity for me, it wasn’t really the right fit. I wasn’t finding myself fulfilled in the sense of purpose that I had had when I was on active duty.” – John Funk

This is when John decided to admit to himself that he needed to look for something else.

What Sealed the Deal

John remembers not having an awful time when he transitioned, all thanks to the privilege of having a wide network of support available for him as a senior officer. He was able to work with individuals he interacted with and met throughout his career.

According to him, this is precisely the reason why he joined the non-profit sector.

“I wanted to make sure that sailors of all ranks, marines of all ranks and positions had the same privileges and connections and network that I had when I made my transition.” – John Funk on joining Easterseals Bob Hope Veterans Support Program
